California Proposition 65 is otherwise known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, which was enacted as a ballot initiative in November 1986 in the state of California.
On the 29th December 2021, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) declared the addition of Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and its salts to the California proposition 65 list, effective from 31st December 2021.
Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and its salts has been added to the Proposition 65 list due to its reproductivity toxicity. It joins the already listed PFC’s; Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and its salts and transformation and degradation precursors were added to the proposition 65 list due to their developmental toxicity and cancer-causing effects.
