On 10th July 2017, the Turkish Ministry of Economy added chromium VI and organotin-dioctyltin (DOT) to their list of restricted substances for the footwear sector, which already states requirements and limits for phthalates. These new restricted substance limits apply to all imported footwear products to Turkey that are subject to market surveillance. BLC can carry out footwear testing and chemical testing on footwear products to verify the chemical content of the below restricted substances:

 

Chromium VI Limits in Leather

Chromium VI should not exceed < 3 mg/kg and applies to all assessible leather parts of footwear, whether it comes into contact with the skin or not.

Organotin – Dioctyltin (DOT) Limits

DOT should not exceed < 0.1% of the footwear product that comes into contact with skin.

Phthalates Limits in Plastics

All the following phthalates should not exceed < 0.1% of the total footwear product:

  • Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
  • Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
  • Diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP)
  • Diisononyl phthalate (DINP)
  • Di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP)
