BLC has recently received a Certificate of Excellence from the Institute for Interlaboratory Studies (iis) based in the Netherlands, for the proficiency test PFOA / PFOS for Textile (pt: iis17A05).
Perfluorooctane Sulphonate (PFOS) has been classified as persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic (PBT) and, as a result, has been restricted under Annex XVII of REACH. PFOS is a highly toxic substance that is very mobile in the environment and often referred to as a global pollutant.
BLC tested the textile using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), which is an analytical chemistry technique that can be applied to the testing of a wide variety of leather and textile products, including footwear, upholstery, leathergoods, garments and apparel, jewellery and accessories.
